John’s Birthday at Restrepo

Hello again, everyone. I wanted to share a remarkable experience I had at American School Way. December 5, 2022, started off on a somber note for me. It was my 44th birthday, and I hadn’t spoken to anyone all morning, thinking no one would remember my special day. When I arrived at work in Restrepo, I was in for a surprise. Unbeknownst to me, they had something big planned. I was directed to go upstairs, and what I saw took my breath away. They had decorated the writing room for my birthday! As I walked in, everyone was present. My theme song, “El Señor De La Noche” by Don Omar, filled the room, and they even had a cake. The overwhelming joy and appreciation I felt in that moment are hard to describe. Having received such a warm welcome at the airport earlier and now this, I’ve never felt more cherished and at home.

Wizzard, the Academic Coordinator—who is not just my boss but also a dear friend and now feels like a brother—has been incredibly supportive. Over the last ten months, he’s assisted me in countless ways, both professionally and personally. Our frequent conversations mean a lot to me. The kindness and generosity he, along with many others, have shown since my arrival will always remain etched in my memory. Surrounding oneself with the right people is crucial; they guide you through life’s challenges and obstacles. Indeed, I’ve faced some hurdles in the past ten months, and without everyone’s unwavering support, I’d have felt lost.

Always remember, if you ever wish to chat or catch up, you can find me at American School Way in Restrepo. Thank you all, and until next time, take care.
