Being a speaker at ASW and Person ELT Conference

Perfect imperfection

What’s up everyone. I hope everyone has been doing amazing. Christmas is right around the corner, and I wanted to take a moment to share something with you that meant a lot to me. A little while ago ASW had an ELT conference and I participated in it as a speaker. I remember when I was asked, I was so nervous because I would be speaking to teachers, but there was something that I wanted to share with them that I was passionate about. I took a deep breath and let go off all the anxiety and began to plan what I would talk about, and the topic was how video games can help students improve their English. I also talked about the importance of encouraging others to do as much as they must to be the best they can be. The conference was incredible. I brought my laptop so teachers could try different video games to experience first-hand how they can help with learning languages. It was an opportunity of a lifetime.

Shortly after the conference I began playing a game called Fortnite with a couple of students and as time began to pass more and more students would join our group. Some of the students’ friends would play with us and they didn’t know any English, but they began to learn, and I even learned Spanish from them. It was a mix of both languages and a truly fun experience. I would speak in English usually asking for help and then they would yell “what” and that would cause everyone to burst into uncontrollable laughter. The same would occur when I would say something in Spanish. I spoke to a student’s grandmother, and she was incredible. She knew a little English and invited me for coffee and an arepa. I absolutely love the job that I have here because ever single day I can help make someone’s life better and that is my goal in life. Thank you for taking the time to read my personal experience and please remember that no matter what you want to do in life all you have to do is work for it and never give up. Until next time, take care of yourself.
